In a teleconference Sunday evening, Mike London announced that Phillip Sims would get his third start against Wake Forest on Saturday.

Mike London didn?t waste time or words.

In a simple statement made to reporters during a Sunday evening teleconference, the Virginia head coach cleared up any quarterback controversy.

?There?s no quarterback change,? London said.

And with that, Phillip Sims will be the Cavaliers? starter for UVa?s Saturday home game with Wake Forest.

This all comes after this past Saturday?s 27-20 loss to Maryland, the Wahoos? fifth in a row highlighted with a shaky beginning for Sims and a near-complete finish for Michael Rocco.

Sims, a redshirt sophomore making his second career start, struggled mightily against the Terrapins, completing just 13 of 28 passes for 139 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

He was also sacked five times and lost a fumble.

In his two contests as Virginia?s No. 1 signal caller on the depth chart, Sims has hit 34 of 70 targets for 407 yards, a score and three picks.

?Not really sure, to be honest,? Sims said Saturday evening in the Scott Stadium media room when asked what didn?t click against the Terps. ?Sometimes you hit and miss, and there were a lot of misses today.?

In a 42-17 loss to Duke on Oct. 6, Sims and the Cavalier offense had issues with completing the deep pass. In the defeat to Maryland, that same unit had problems connecting on any type of throw.

In the first half, a 30-minute effort that had UVa down 17-3, Sims was five of 17 for 61 yards and an interception that came on the Cavs? opening possession.

?We just tried to get a lot of completions this week,? Sims said. ?Just tried to get going early and often. I just didn?t do my job.?

In fourth quarter relief, Rocco, 2012?s starter for the first five games, drove Virginia 81 yards in 10 plays, hooking up with Jake McGee for a 24-yard touchdown with 4:10 remaining to cut the Terrapin lead to seven.

The Cavaliers regained possession at the Maryland 49-yard line two minutes later, but Rocco threw four consecutive incompletions, including a toss too tall for a wide-open Khalek Shepherd on first down.

The junior finished five of 11 for 79 yards and that score.

?I think every drive I might have an opportunity to go in, so it really wasn?t surprising at all,? Rocco said. ?I?m a competitor, and I want to be in the game.?

But to open the Wake Forest contest, things will stay with Sims.

?[It was his] second start, but hey, listen, this is something that we have to get better at,? London said of improved accuracy for the Alabama transfer. ?And we have to individually get better at [it] in order to take his game to another level as well. We know about the big arm, but we also want to get the completions. ... Phillip understands that, and that?s what has to happen.?

At 2-5 and 0-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Virginia is seeking success in a number of areas.

Quarterback just happens to be at the top of the list.

?You can choose to quit,? London said. ?You can choose to run. Or you can choose to stay and fight through every issue that you have. With this team, this staff, that?s the mindset that we have. That?s probably the biggest thing I can say.

?There is disappointment, but we have an ?all in? mentality. I can?t look at this in any other way. I can?t look at this as ?woe is me.? I have to look at this as there?s five games left in the season. The most important game for us right now is this game this Saturday.

?Another home game, another conference game. That?s how we look at it.?

The Demon Deacons (3-3, 1-3) will come to Scott Stadium for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff.

Virginia, an early 4.5-point favorite, hasn?t suffered a six-game losing streak since 2009, the end of Al Groh?s final season in Charlottesville.
